Postdoctoral Fellow - Immuno-Oncology - Mingye Feng

Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:

Dr. Mingye Feng?s laboratory at the Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope is looking for a talented and highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow.

Before joining City of Hope, Dr. Feng did his postdoctoral training with Dr. Irving Weissman at Stanford University on cancer immunology. Dr. Weissman?s laboratory pioneered studies to understand the roles of tumor-associated macrophages in cancer immunosurveillance and discovered CD47 as a ?don?t eat me? signal on cancer cells to protect them from elimination by macrophages. The antibody targeting CD47 is currently in clinical trials for multiple types of human cancers.

Dr. Feng is an awardee of the Damon Runyon ? Dale F. Frey Award for Breakthrough Scientists from the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation, and the K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award from NIH. His laboratory employs cutting-edge techniques to understand mechanisms of macrophages in cancer immunosurveillance, identify ?don?t eat me? signals on various hematopoietic malignant and solider tumor cells, and develop novel cancer immunotherapies targeting metastatic cancer cells. Cancer immunotherapy is one of the most important breakthroughs in the development of cancer treatment approaches. As one of the largest populations of immune cells in human body and the major components of primary tumors and the metastatic sites, macrophages are potentially key effectors mediating tumor immunosurveillance and thus one of the most promising fields in cancer immunology.

The successful candidate will utilize a combination of in vitro cell biological, molecular biological and immunological assays and in vivo models to study interactions between cancer cells and macrophages and develop strategies to enable macrophage-mediated cancer immunotherapies. Translational medicine is highly promoted at City of Hope. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with clinicians at the Helford Clinical Research Hospital at City of Hope to translate research work in the laboratory to clinically viable reagents and therapies. Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:

  • A Ph.D. degree in life or biomedical sciences, or a related discipline is required.

  • The ideal candidate should have strong background in cell biology, cancer biology and immunology, excellent verbal and written skills and integral working ethics.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
